Client: New York Power Authority
Location: New York, USA
Solution: Oil Water and Filtration System
Industry: Power & Utilities
Overview
The New York Power Authority contacted MyCelx because they needed a small but dynamic system capable of removing oil and contaminants that collected in the containment tanks before they were discharged into the Niagara River. The solution would have to be environmentally responsible and effective enough to handle the capacity of 11,000 gallons of water which, at the time, was being pumped only periodically and then hauled off-site. It was also important to avoid creating a huge pressure drop or increasing maintenance expectations.
MyCelx proposed a two-stage solution as the last barrier of defense. Particle filters were first employed for the removal of suspended solids. Engineers then installed MyCelx PCB filters to capture the oil and PCBs. The New York Power Authority continues to enjoy exceptional results, including:
- Oil and PCBs successfully removed at <1 ppm
- Operating costs of $0.30/1000 gallons
- Only 8’ x 5’ x 6’ footprint required
- Operating pressure drop of <5 psi
- Only 2-3 man-hours needed for maintenance each year

Client: Wilhelmsen Ships Service
Location: Oslo, Norway
Solution: Oily Bilge Water Treatment
Industry: Commercial Marine
Overview
The British Purpose is a P- Class oil tanker with trading operations in the US Gulf, West Africa and Europe. With carrying capacity of up to 320,000 tons, the tanker was generating up to 300 gallons of water per day. Conventional bilge water filtration technologies, which utilize motors, pumps or generators, proved to be costly solutions that took up massive amounts of space and provided no protection against accidental spills. Engineers sought an environmentally accountable alternative that could keep operating costs low, conserve energy and space, and handle high fluctuations in oil content. MyCelx technologies now afford the tanker unprecedented levels of protection against overboard discharge through its patented Oily Bilge Water Treatment Systems. Ship engineers enjoy complete peace of mind while meeting the strictest International Maritime Organization requirements. The remarkable results include:
- Successful treatment of oily bilge water from 50-3000 ppm to less
- Operating cost of $0.14 per gallon
- Absolutely no energy requirements
- Footprint of 4’ x 3’ x 6’ – smallest footprint available on the market
- A 76-97% reduction in handling costs when compared to alternative solutions
MyCelx can help you meet the strictest marine regulations in existence. No other company can make that claim. Call us today and see the difference our technology can make to your vessel.
Client: General Motors
Location: USA
Solution: Inline Closed Loop Unit
Industry: Manufacturing
Overview
General Motors’ newly installed, state-of-the-art manufacturing process was experiencing unexpected oil in the cooling water. With a re-circulation flow of 10,000 gallons per minute and approximately 100 exchangers on site, there was no simple way to determine where the problem originated. Frequent emergency shutdowns were costing the plant significant amount of money in downtime and maintenance costs, and oil leaks reduced the efficiency of the exchangers. MyCelx tackled the problem by fitting an Inline Closed Loop filtration Unit that could easily handle the oil loading in the process water under high flow conditions without reducing efficiency. Engineers then custom-designed a visual oil indicator system (filters turn black when an oil leak is present), saving the plant substantial amounts of time and money in identifying oil leaks in the other heat exchangers. The outstanding results speak for themselves:
-
99% removal of contaminants within 1 month
-
Capital costs of only $20,000
-
Operating costs of a mere $0.002/per gallon
-
A footprint of only 5’ x 3’ x 6’
-
Maintenance reduced to 1 hour per month
MyCelx is the answer to resolving long-standing oil removal issues. We understand the complexity of your requirements and can guide you smoothly through the process. Contact one of our qualified representatives and get complete peace of mind today.
Client: Toyota
Location: Toyota Motor Corp., USA
Solution: Oil Mist and Odor Removal Filters
Industry: Facilities
Overview
The Toyota Motor Corporation operates 10 facilities in the U.S. and employs approximately 34,000 people nationwide. Always at the forefront of environmentally sound technologies, Toyota sought a robust solution to reduce oily mist and odor in the plant air. Toyota decided to draw upon the expertise of MyCelx Technologies and installed the revolutionary Oil Mist and Odor Removal Air Filters. A measurable reduction of odor in the plant resulted as well as less oily mist contamination in plant equipment. Massive savings in operational, heating, and cooling costs were an added benefit. Other results included:
- Odor threshold level of less than 1ppm
- Annual operating costs of 1/10th of any oil and odor removal alternative with effectiveness of greater than 75%
- Successful oil and odor removal to 85%
- 0.1 inches of water pressure drop across filters

Client: Major Oil Refinery
Location: USA
Solution: High Flow Storm Water Treatment System
Industry: Oil & Gas
Overview
A major oil refinery located in the southeastern part of the U.S. neighbors a bird estuary on a natural conservation site. Complications arose when the refinery could not reliably meet the discharge requirements after a significant amount of rainfall occurred. The refinery sought a cost-effective, environmentally responsible solution that could meet their strict discharge requirements of less than 5ppm while maintaining a small footprint.
MyCelx's advanced Oil Removal Technology proved to be robust enough to handle the high flow rate, requiring very little space. Engineers designed and fabricated a system to meet the strict discharge requirements without complicating their process.
The remarkable results were:
- 5,000 gpm and 3,500 gpm systems operating at less than 5 psi
- Highly successful removal of oil to less than 5 ppm
- Operating costs of only $0.90/ per 1000 gallons
- A footprint of 8' X 5' X 6"
- Less than 3 man-hours per year needed for maintenance

Client: Anadarko
Location: Utah, USA
Solution: MyCelx Oil Removal Technology
Industry: Oil and Gas
Overview
Anadarko Petroleum Corp. is among the largest independent oil and natural gas production and exploration companies in the world. At gas production sites in the U.S., Anadarko required engineered de-oiling systems to treat produced water to a quality level suitable fro re-injection. Conventional technologies proved to be expensive and did not reliably produce the water quality required for refracturing.
When other technologies failed, MyCelx's innovative Produced Water Treatment System enabled Anadarko to remove oil and treat the water at flow rates up to 400 gpm for successful re-injection.
The environmentally safe, economically responsible solution delivers outstanding results day in and day out, including:
